Central duo takes third at National History Day

A documentary created by two Central Junior High School students earned third place in the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

Hannah Frydman and Mulligan Greenwell, who will be in the ninth grade this fall, entered the Junior Group Documentary category with a piece titled “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.”

The two girls will split a $250 cash prize.

Lawrence High School 2004 graduate Andrew McKee was a finalist in the Senior Individual Documentary category and received recognition as the outstanding state entry for his project, “The Cuban Missile Crisis.”

Congressman to visit Lawrence program

U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan., will make a stop in Lawrence to visit the Van Go Mobile Arts program during a break from Congress.

Moore will learn about the program from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Monday at 715 N.J.

Van Go Mobile Arts is an arts-based social service agency that provides after-school and summer programs to high-need and underserved youths. The organization receives funding from the U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Investment Act.
