Suspect arrested in five car break-ins
Police arrested a 20-year-old Topeka woman early Sunday on suspicion of breaking into five vehicles near Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa Drive.
A man who lives in the 2300 block of Ranch Way called police and followed the woman after seeing her breaking into his car around 6:45 a.m. Sunday. She was arrested in the 2200 block of Crossgate Drive.
Items taken and later recovered include a commercial steamer, a compact-disc player and a Palm Pilot.
Radio to broadcast Reagan funeral services
Kansas Public Radio will carry a live broadcast of former President Ronald Reagan’s funeral today and Friday.
The coverage on KPR, 91.5-FM in Lawrence, will include the service at 5:30 p.m. today in the U.S. Capitol rotunda, and coverage of Friday’s memorial service. The memorial service begins at 10:30 a.m., with coverage beginning at 10 a.m.
Baldwin representative seeking re-election
State Rep. Tom Holland filed Tuesday for re-election in the 10th District.
The Democrat from Baldwin is seeking his second term.
“My focus will continue to be on K-12 education, protecting and growing Kansas jobs, and addressing small-business issues,” Holland said in a press release.
He is president of Holland Technologies, an information-technology consulting firm. He serves on the House Education and Health and Human Services committees and the Select Committee on Kansas Security. He also is advisory board co-chairman of the Kansas Small Business Development Center.
In 2003 Holland co-authored the freshman revenue plan that provided additional funding for Kansas public schools and social service programs.
The 10th District covers southern Douglas and northern Franklin counties. It includes the cities of Baldwin and Wellsville and part of southern Lawrence.
