City wants public input on 2005 budget process
The Lawrence City Commission is asking for public input as the 2005 budget process picks up steam.
During its meeting Tuesday, the commission will set aside time to take public comment on budget priorities for 2005 — whether that comment is an opinion on taxes or whether city services should be expanded or cut.
The commission meets at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

KU wins grant to develop courses for older adults
A California-based foundation has selected Kansas University to develop one of its 50 lifelong learning institutes.
The Bernard Osher Foundation in San Francisco has awarded KU a grant to offer courses aimed at people ages 50 and older. KU officials declined to disclose the amount of the grant.
The KU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will begin offering classes this fall. It will take the place of the “KU for Lawrence” program and will offer courses in Lawrence, Topeka and Kansas City, Kan.

Coalition to discuss homeless concerns
The Lawrence Coalition on Homeless Concerns will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.
The coalition advocates for people who are homeless or living in substandard housing. It works to secure services to help homeless people achieve self-sufficiency and educate the Lawrence community of the unmet needs of people experiencing homelessness and the difficulty of finding affordable, decent housing.

Seabury students rank on national French tests
Two Bishop Seabury Academy students recently received national recognition for their performance in the National French Contest administered by the American Association of Teachers of French.
Kaylin Carter ranked sixth in the nation on the French I exam, and Elise Stella placed ninth on the French III exam. The tests were taken by more than 97,000 students.
Several Bishop Seabury students recently placed highly in the National Latin Exam. Laura Gauch, Shiv Subramaniam and Jennifer Crawford each received the summa cum laude designation, the highest given.
