Center asks youths to be summer volunteers

Pelathe Community Resource Center needs youth volunteers to help with a medley of tasks over the summer. Volunteers will help in the community garden, donate items for the center’s yard sale, complete yard work and other general tasks around the center, and help in the food pantry.
Immediate volunteer needs
- The Kansas Chautauqua events will be June 24-29 in South Park, and organizers need volunteers make the event fun and successful. A big tent will be erected at South Park for speakers and other events, and volunteers will welcome visitors and hand out programs outside the tent from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. nightly. Volunteers also will work in the outdoor dining area from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. wiping tables, picking up trash and being friendly hosts to Lawrence’s guests. - Brookcreek Learning Center, 200 Mount Hope Court, needs a few adult or teen volunteers to assist with some landscaping and moving of wood chips and pea gravel around the playground areas. For more information, call Esther Kottwitz at 865-0022, ext. 201.
- The Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H., needs a volunteer to help in the gallery shop from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays. Volunteer shifts also will be available Saturdays beginning in August. For more information, call Ann Dean at 843-2787.
- The arts center also needs volunteers age 16 and older to assist with children’s art classes this summer. Volunteers can help with 90-minute or three-hour sessions in areas such as photography, pottery and painting. No special experience is necessary.
