Quite a bit warmer today

Lawrence might get another thunderstorm later in the morning. But clouds will start decreasing after the noon hour, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’ll see those clouds decrease during the day,” Schack said. “. . . We’ll have plenty of sunshine this afternoon.”

A thunderstorm began moving into the area about 4 a.m. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning about 5 a.m. for Douglas County. The storms brought 0.19 of an inch of rain by 7 a.m. at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

By 7 a.m., the temperature was 70 in the Lawrence area, under cloudy skies. Today’s high is expected to climb to 90 by the afternoon.

“It’s going to be quite a bit warmer today,” Schack said.

Tonight is expected to be mostly clear with the low dropping to 72 by Tuesday morning, Schack said. Tuesday afternoon’s high temperature will climb to 94.

Wednesday will start off with a low of 73, climbing to a high of 95 by Wednesday afternoon. There are chances for isolated thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, Schack said.
