Thunderstorms possible tonight
If you have an outdoor Fourth of July activity scheduled today somewhere in middle of the day, you should have dry weather. But you might want to pack an umbrella for tonight.
The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m. and in the late afternoon after 4 p.m. Lawrence’s Municipal Airport reported 0.06 of an inch of rain fell overnight between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Tonight, the skies might be providing some natural fireworks, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms expected, according to the National Weather Service.
“Some storms may be severe with large hail and damaging winds. Heavy rains falling over saturated ground may cause localized flooding over parts of the area tonight,” according to the National Weather Service’s hazardous weather outlook.
Hot and humid conditions are in today’s forecast. Today’s high temperature was expected to rise to 90 under partly cloudy skies. The wind will be from the south, between 5 and 10 mph.
Tonight’s skies will be partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Winds will be from the south, between 5 and 10 mph.
The chance for more rain continues Monday and Tuesday.

“Some of the storms on Monday and Monday night may be severe with large hail and damaging winds the main threat. Again heavy rains will be possible and may cause localized flooding over parts of the area Monday and Monday night,” according to the National Weather Service.
There’s also a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday, mainly before 1 p.m.
