In a deal signed late Tuesday night, IFC Films will be distributing “C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America,” a film about an America in which the South won the Civil War.

“I think IFC is going to be a great home for us,” said C.S.A. writer and director Kevin Willmott of Lawrence, speaking from Park City, Utah. “They seem to be willing to let us be involved in the marketing,” he said.

“C.S.A.” is a faux documentary about an America in which the South won the Civil War.

IFC Films, specializing in the distribution of independent movies, is best known for the Oscar nominated films “Y Tu Mama Tambien” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and is currently screening “The Saddest Music in the World” at the Sundance Film Festival.

Willmott said, “This is the payoff of a lot of hard work by a lot of people.”

When asked what this deal might mean for Lawrence and Kansas filmmaking, Willmott said that the job now is to “leverage this period of attention to find financing for our other projects.”

Willmott is planning to make low budget films in the state. “We want to make one movie a year as the goal, part or all of these films to be shot in Kansas, with the emphasis on all,” he said.
