Theaters and classical music venues are still on winter break, but art galleries are picking up the slack this weekend.
Four separate shows are on view at the Lawrence Public Library throughout January. Prints about Lawrence by Lawrence artists are on display in the gallery. The cases inside the south entrance feature hand-carved birch bark creations by Russian artist Vladimir Malkov. Watercolors by Maria Anthony grace the library's entrances, and nature photographs by Jim Swanson can be seen on the lower level.
And a few blocks away, the Olive Gallery is cooking up a treat for gallery-goers. "Tweaking the Right Brain," an exhibition by Lawrence artist Liz Gardner comes down today. In its place, local ceramist Hollie Rice will be showing an assortment of cakes made from clay. They look good enough to eat, but they're not for tasting. The show opens with a reception and live music Saturday night.
