It didn’t take long for Lawrence to get its first baby of 2004.

Dominick Lee Flint was born at 1:15 a.m. Thursday to Brandy and Cory Flint at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The newborn weighed in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

“I just want him to make it through school and get a good education,” Brandy said as she held Dominick in her lap.

The father, Cory, had the same wishes for his new son, adding “don’t get into trouble.”

Dominick’s older brother, Isaac, 3, sat beside his mother and wore a New Year’s hat that kept falling over his eyes. He had stayed up late to meet his new brother just minutes after he was born.

Despite what she said was a rough delivery, Brandy was sitting up Thursday afternoon in her hospital room and planned to go home today.

Brandy, 22, who is a housekeeper, said she would take a few weeks off from work. Cory, 21, said he would be back at work today with Sloan Contracting.

The parents were born and raised in Lawrence and have known each other since elementary school when they both attended Kennedy.

They were high school sweethearts at Lawrence High School and married last year.

Brandy said her family was big enough now. “I wanted to try for a girl, but I think I’m done,” she said.

Dominick was due around the start of the new year, but even so, Brandy said the on-time arrival was a surprise. “I didn’t think it was going to happen,” she said.

When Dominick comes home, he will have a lot of company. The family has two dogs, two hamsters and a rabbit, plus many relatives in the area.

Plus, Isaac will have the job of introducing his new brother to his Bob the Builder and Barney toys.
