Party hearty with advice from a pro
Christmas is over. It’s time to start obsessing about New Year’s Eve. The new daily series “The Party Planner with David Tutera” (Discovery, 1 p.m.) offers practical advice to help you throw memorable gatherings. In each episode, Tutera, an event planner, works with other experts to offer advice on unique party-throwing challenges such as graduations, baby showers, business events, housewarmings, etc.
Tutera has planned parties for celebrities like Vice President Al Gore, the Rolling Stones, Kenneth Cole and Jennifer Lopez’s perfume launch. He even worked on Star Jones’ wedding and lived to tell the tale.
- Fox offers two chances to catch “House” (Fox), a provocative medical drama starring Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House, a physician more interested in the truth and in saving lives than the social niceties of a so-called “bedside manner.”
He’s a prickly customer. Make that a pill-popping crank. But his patients and colleagues always come around to appreciate his brutal application of reason over sentiment. Dr. House may not be nice, but he’s hard to forget. As TV personalities go, he may be the crankiest sawbones since “Quincy.”
In tonight’s first episode (7 p.m.), House risks alienating an ailing boy’s parents with probing questions about his genetic background. In the second (8 p.m.), a maternity ward epidemic leaves House’s staff with some hard choices.
Tonight’s other highlights
- Jim Belushi is host of “ESPN’s Blunderful World of Sports” (7 p.m., ABC), a special from 2003.
