1 of 3 winning Powerball tickets sold in Omaha

? One of three winning Powerball tickets was sold at an Omaha convenience store only three hours before Wednesday’s drawing.

No one had stepped into the store claiming the winning numbers, Kwik Shop manager Kathy Miller said Thursday.

However, a lot of other people visited the store Thursday buying Powerball tickets and hoping a bit of luck rubs off on them for the next drawing, Miller said.

“They just felt like, hey, they better buy one here,” Miller said.

Whoever bought the ticket must sign it and travel to Lincoln to claim the winning numbers, Nebraska Lottery spokesman Tom Johnson said.

The ticket was sold at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Ticket sales for Wednesday night’s drawing were shut down about 8:30 p.m., Johnson said.

Two other winning tickets were sold in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Winners will split a $30.9 million jackpot, which will mean about $10.2 million on each ticket or about $5.6 million each for the cash option, Johnson said. After taxes, the cash option would bring nearly $4 million, Johnson said.

The winning ticket was the eighth sold in Nebraska since the state joined the Powerball game in 1984. Three winning tickets have been sold in North Platte, one each in Hastings, Wahoo and Lincoln and two in Omaha, Johnson said.

The state has been lucky on Powerball winning tickets, Johnson said. Given the odds based on sales, Nebraska should be the site of three winning tickets at most since it joined the Powerball game, Johnson said.
