OK, it’s not a primetime show, but “LazyTown” (9:30 a.m., Nickelodeon), the strange new action-packed kid’s show from Iceland, demands attention.

Combining live-action characters in fantastic outfits, CGI animation and life-sized puppets, “LazyTown” takes place in a super-colorful village where all of the kids do, well, nothing. Concerned about the idle youth of LazyTown, the mayor (a rubbery puppet thing that looks like actor Wallace Shawn) calls on his superhero friend Sportacus (Magnus Scheving) to inspire the kids to run, jump and play. In real life, Scheving works as a professional athlete and aerobic champion. Since every hero must have a nemesis, there’s Robbie Rotten, a fiendishly inventive scientist dedicated to plying kids with junk food.

Kids should love this, but it remains to be seen if “LazyTown” will inspire them to give up television for physical activity.

Tonight’s highlights

• Scheduled primetime Olympic coverage (7 p.m., NBC) includes women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s swimming, and women’s beach volleyball.
• The documentary “The President vs. David Hicks” (8 p.m., Sundance) looks at the capture, incarceration and forthcoming trial of Hicks, an Australian national held as an “enemy combatant” in Guantanamo Bay since 2002.
• Kitchen renovation nightmares on “Everybody Loves Raymond” (8 p.m., CBS).
