Shriver treated for hypothermia
Boston — Eunice Kennedy Shriver was in good condition at a Boston hospital Thursday after being treated for hypothermia earlier in the week.
Shriver became chilled after a sailing trip on Sunday, the Cape Cod Times reported. She was taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Shriver, 83, is the fifth of Rose and Joseph Kennedy’s nine children and the mother of Maria Shriver, the TV journalist who is married to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Texas to honor Armstrong
Austin, Texas — Central Texans will get a chance to celebrate Lance Armstrong’s record sixth title in the Tour de France with a downtown parade, musical performances and other events.
Armstrong’s dominance in the event after recovering from life-threatening testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain has made him a worldwide celebrity. He also founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research and survivor support programs.
More than 60,000 people were expected to attend the Friday-night events featuring a concert by the Steve Miller Band on a giant outdoor stage. The parade will be up Congress Avenue and concerts will be held one block south of the Capitol.
Armstrong is expected to ride his bike in the parade and make remarks to the crowd sometime later.
‘Vagina’ author widens her focus
New York — Eve Ensler is going from “The Vagina Monologues” to “The Good Body” — and bringing it to Broadway.
The writer-performer’s latest rumination on the female form will open Nov. 15 at Broadway’s Booth Theatre for a limited 12-week engagement. Preview performances begin Oct. 22, it was announced Wednesday.
“The Good Body” deals with women’s body issues, including what Ensler calls her own “less-than-flat, post-40s stomach.” The solo show had a successful summer engagement at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
“The Vagina Monologues,” which celebrates female sexuality while decrying violence against women, was one of off-Broadway’s biggest hits.
‘Naked News’ comes to Britain
London — Stripped-down news anchors posed outside the Houses of Parliament to launch the latest addition to Britain’s competitive news media: “Naked News.”
The revealing format, in which anchors disrobe while reading a digest of news, sports and entertainment, will begin broadcasting Monday on a British satellite station.
“Naked News” claims a potential weekly audience of 34 million in the United States, where the program is available on pay-per-view TV.
Anchor Lily Kwan, 27, said she understood that some viewers might find the concept demeaning.
“I recognize some people will feel that way,” she said Wednesday. “But I think this is an empowering position. Nudity is OK.”
