‘River City Weekly’ hits baseball topics

Baseball is the topic this week on “River City Weekly.”

Kansas University English professor Jim Carothers talks about the literature of the national pastime while Phil Huntsinger offers a look at his treasured baseball glove collection in this encore presentation.

Then the focus shifts to a couple’s prenatal getaway opportunity being offered through Lawrence Memorial Hospital on “Better Health.”

“River City Weekly” premieres on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays with replays at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Mondays, and 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Former Bert Nash CEO given Pioneer Award

Sandra Shaw, former chief executive at the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, received the Pioneer Award on Tuesday night during the center’s annual meeting.

The award is presented each year to the person who has made exceptional efforts to increase access to comprehensive mental health care for all Douglas County residents.

Shaw first joined Bert Nash as a clinical psychologist in 1971. From then until 1979 she developed and directed outpatient clinical services for children and families.
