Don’t bother trying to get tickets to see Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble Saturday night at the Lied Center.

Tickets have been sold out since January.

The 8 p.m. performance is part of a special gala event in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Lied Center and the 100th anniversary of the Kansas University Concert Series.

The concert will be preceded by Gala Signature Dinners in private homes throughout Lawrence. The celebration will conclude with a private After-Glow Party on the Lied Center stage following the concert.

The events will benefit the Lied Performance Fund, which was created in 1996 to ensure that the center remains accessible to the regional community and that its outreach and educational programs serve the entire state.

Ma, a virtuoso cellist, serves as artistic director of the Silk Road Project, which investigates the cultural, artistic and intellectual heritage that was established along the ancient Silk Road trade route. One of Ma’s goals is the exploration of music as a means of communication and as a vehicle for the migration of ideas across a range of cultures throughout the world.

Two other events remain on the Lied Center’s 10th anniversary season. Diavolo Dance Theatre will perform “DreamCatcher,” a dance co-commissioned by the Lied Center, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. On May 1, composers Philip Glass and Terry Riley will join the Bang on a Can All-Stars for a 7:30 p.m. concert that wraps up the 2003-2004 schedule.
