Prairie Fire Fest to heat up Flint Hills

? The fourth annual Prairie Fire Festival is scheduled for Saturday in Cottonwood Falls.

The festival celebrates the annual ritual of pasture burning on the tallgrass prairie of Chase County.

The week before the festival features Prairie Information Seminars at 6:30 p.m. at the Emma Chase Cafe. The TallGrass Gospel Pickers will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the cafe.

The paintings of internationally known Flint Hills artist Judith Mackey will be on view in her gallery, 321 Broadway, throughout Saturday’s festival.

The Chase County Art Guild will have its annual Prairie Fire Festival exhibit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Masonic Temple on Broadway, and the Flint Hills Quilt Guild will exhibit quilts at the Chase County Courthouse.

Arts and crafts booths and live music will be sprinkled throughout the business district from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. concert by Judy Coder and the Pride of the Prairie will round out the festival.
