Osbourne daughter in rehab

Los Angeles — Kelly Osbourne, the 19-year-old daughter of heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne, has checked into a drug rehabilitation center for an addiction to painkillers, her parents said in a televised interview.

Ozzy, 55, and Sharon Osbourne, 51, talked about their daughter’s drug problem Friday night on CNN’s “Larry King Live.”

Sharon Osbourne said that an English tabloid notified them Friday that they had a photograph of Kelly in an apparent drug deal.

Kelly Osbourne was confronted and eventually acknowledged a drug problem “after a lot of twisting,” Sharon Osbourne said.

Actor seeks to help Iraqi schools

Kansas City, Mo. — Gary Sinise was alarmed by what he saw at an Iraqi school while on a trip to visit U.S. troops: School supplies were so scarce that several children were sharing a single pencil and notepad.

So he started a school supply drive at his children’s California school — an effort that’s grown to include nonprofit groups, FedEx Corp. and Laura Hillenbrand, author of “Seabiscuit.”

“This is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical issue,” Sinise said. He was in Kansas City on Thursday to kick off Operation Iraqi Children, to send school supplies and Arabic translations of “Seabiscuit” to Iraq.

“They’ve been taught for so long that Americans aren’t very good folks,” Sinise said. “And we know that we are a generous bunch of people here.”

‘Idol’ reject releasing album

New York — William Hung, whose spirited version of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” got him booted from open auditions for “American Idol,” will release his debut album next week.

“Inspiration,” in stores Tuesday, includes “She Bangs,” along with another Martin hit, “Shake Your Bon-Bon,” and a cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” There’s also a bonus DVD.

“I get recognized everywhere. And people will go like, ‘Oh, heh, that’s the guy from ‘American Idol.’ I remember you from the TV,”‘ the 21-year-old civil engineering student told AP Radio recently.
