Robert Minor, Kansas University professor of religious studies, will talk about and sign his recent book, “Gay & Healthy in a Sick Society: The Minor Details,” from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Oread Books in the Kansas Union.

The event, co-sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and KU Student Senate, is part of a series of April events celebrating Queer History Month. It’s also part of Oread Books’ ongoing local author series.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Gay & Healthy in a Sick Society,” published in November 2003 by HumanityWorks!, has earned top reviews.

The book challenges the gay and lesbian community to question attitudes of victimization that have too long been taken for granted, and shows, by example, how to seek realistic self-images, respond to critics and define individual and community lives.

He previously published “Scared Straight: Why It’s So Hard to Accept Gay People and Why It’s So Hard to Be Human” (HumanityWorks!, 2001).

Minor is founder of The Fairness Project, which grew out of 10 years of workshops he has led nationwide. In addition to his books, Minor is the author of numerous related articles and a monthly column entitled “Minor Details.”
