Law enforcement report

A 2-year-old Douglas County boy who was hospitalized after being kicked in the chest by a horse will be released from the hospital today. Owen Platt was taken by air ambulance Tuesday to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He is now doing fine, said his father, Sam Platt.

Injury accidents

  • A van struck a pedestrian Wednesday night at 24th Street and Ousdahl Road. Heath D. Morris, 31, Lawrence, was walking west across Ousdahl at 7:21 p.m. when a southbound Ford van driven by James P. Girard, 59, Lawrence, struck him. Morris was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A $3,000 Dell computer, a PlayStation and a cell phone were among items taken early Thursday from a residence in the 100 block of East 23rd Street, according to a police report. The theft happened between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.
  • Someone took a red 2003 Honda motorcycle worth $2,800 from a home in the 1500 section of North 300 Road. The vehicle’s owner, a 26-year-old Lawrence man, told police he left the vehicle at a friend’s house Monday, returned a few hours later and found it missing.
  • An employee of Rueschhoff, 3727 W. Sixth St., reported an assortment of tools and equipment worth $3,027 stolen from a vehicle at the business. The theft happened between 6 p.m. Monday and 7:55 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Two 17-inch flat-screen monitors, a combined television/VCR and two 17-inch regular monitors were among items taken and damaged at the East Heights School building at 1430 Haskell Ave. The items, worth $2,300, were taken about 9:45 p.m. Monday.
  • A burgundy 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse was taken between 7 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday from outside the owner’s residence on Lynch Court, reports said.
