Deputy suspected of basketball theft
A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy is a suspect in the disappearance of a set of autographed basketballs from an area home earlier this month.
Sheriff Rick Trapp confirmed Thursday that he’s asked the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation of a deputy in connection with the alleged theft on Oct. 2 from a home south of Lawrence. Items stolen included a basketball autographed by Wilt Chamberlain and one autographed by Kansas University’s national championship 1988 men’s basketball team.
