KSU students to protest increases in tuition
Manhattan — Kansas State University students are ready to voice their concerns to state legislators and other officials about rising tuition costs.
They will get their chance Nov. 4, on the K-State campus in the second annual Pack the Library Night: Rally for Higher Education. The event begins at 7 p.m. with a march around the campus beginning at Hale Library. A reception and program starts at 7:45 p.m. on the second-floor foyer of the library.
K-State has raised tuition more than 20 percent for two consecutive years, and another increase is expected.
Fair discusses jobs in federal government
University Career and Employment services will offer a federal job panel from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in 330 Strong Hall on the Kansas University campus.
Speakers will include Jason Parman, Officer of Personal Management; Martha Goodall, Department of Homeland Security; Rita Womack, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and Vlad Sambaiew, U.S. Department of State, who will discuss federal employment and internship opportunities.
The federal government is the second-largest employer in the Kansas City area. For more information, call University Career and Employment Services at 864-3624.
Extension to honor retiring employee
Kansas State University Research and Extension will honor a longtime worker who is retiring at the end of the year.
Sharon Heidemann is retiring Dec. 31, after working for the extension service for 35 years. Of those, 25 years have been in Douglas County where she was home economics secretary.
A public reception in her honor is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Douglas County Extension Office, 2110 Harper St.
