Topeka man formally charged in downtown Lawrence shootings

A Topeka man accused of firing shots that injured 11 people early Sunday morning outside a downtown Lawrence bar was formally charged Monday in Douglas County District Court.

Jason A. Tremble, 21, who appeared before Judge Peggy Kittel from the Douglas County Jail, was charged with 11 counts of aggravated battery, one count of criminal possession of a firearm and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

Tremble’s bond was set at $50,000.

Prosectuors say he has a prior felony conviction for possession of opiates or narcotics and a significant criminal history.

According to witnesses, someone started shooting at the ground and in the air about 1:50 a.m. Sunday just to the south of It’s Brothers Bar & Grill, 1105 Mass.

Eleven people were injured by richoceting bullets and flying pieces of pavement, according to Lawrence police.

Tremble was arrested several hours later near Sixth and Florida streets.
