Singer Glen Campbell charged with extreme DUI

Phoenix — Country singer Glen Campbell, whose hits included “Rhinestone Cowboy,” struck another car while driving drunk and left the scene, then later kneed a police officer while demanding to see the police chief, authorities said Tuesday.

He was freed early Tuesday on $2,000 bail on charges of extreme drunken driving and hit and run. He also was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

Campbell, 67, was arrested Monday at his home after a collision at a Phoenix intersection in which nobody was hurt, police Sgt. Randy Force said. A witness followed Campbell home and reported him.

Breath tests on Campbell showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20, according to court documents.

He posted bail on the charges of suspicion of extreme drunken driving and hit and run, but was re-arrested for kneeing a police office in the thigh.

Reeve talks without ventilator

New York — Christopher Reeve appeared before a New York audience and proudly pointed out what he was missing: the ventilator he’s had to use since the horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed.

“To breathe normally, to be able to smell … anything that makes you feel more normal is psychologically so important,” Reeve told the crowd at Monday night’s annual benefit for his Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

In February, Reeve became the third person in the United States to undergo a surgical procedure called diaphragm pacing, which involves threading tiny wires through small incisions in the diaphragm.

The “Superman” actor has been paralyzed since a 1995 accident.

Wynonna Judd weds

Nashville, Tenn. — Country singer Wynonna Judd has wed her longtime bodyguard, D.R. Roach.

The couple married Saturday in a private ceremony in the Leiper’s Fork community about 30 miles south of Nashville, publicist Ashley Eicher said.

Sixty friends and family members attended, including Wynonna’s mother, singer Naomi Judd, and her sister, actress Ashley Judd.

This is Wynonna’s second marriage. She and Arch B. Kelly III split in 1998.

Trump gets reality show

New York — Donald Trump will have an appropriately supersized television debut.

NBC announced Monday that a reality series built around the real estate mogul, “The Apprentice,” will have a 90-minute premiere edition at 7:30 p.m. Jan 8.

That’s a Thursday night — NBC’s most popular night of programming — and “The Apprentice” will premiere after “Friends.” It will move into a regular Wednesday time slot.

Sixteen candidates are vying for a $250,000-a-year job as Trump’s apprentice in his real estate company. “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett is behind the new series.
