B-2 bomber flyover to precede KU game

A flyover today by a B-2 Spirit bomber will rattle windows in Lawrence.

The bomber, based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Johnson County, Mo., will fly over Memorial Stadium after the national anthem at today’s Kansas University-Nebraska football game, which has a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

The flyover is designed to commemorate Veterans Day, which is Tuesday.

University sets exam

Kansas University has announced the following final examination:

High school students to try ‘Taste of Baker’

More than 100 high school students are expected to be at Baker University today and Sunday for the “Taste of Baker” weekend.

The event will include campus tours and opportunities to meet with Baker students, faculty and staff.

The weekend also includes an all-campus dinner and a Baker theater production. Students will stay at fraternities, sororities and residence halls.

Bank collects for needy

Commercial Federal Bank will collect donated items during its 12th annual Giving Tree program. The items will be distributed to area service organizations.

People may drop off goods under the tree in Commercial Federal lobbies during regular business hours beginning Monday. The program ends Dec. 19. Needed items include nonperishable food, toys and winter clothing such as hats, gloves, mittens, coats and socks.

The bank is at 4114 W. Sixth St. in Lawrence and at 700 S. Main St. in Ottawa.

VFW poppy sale today

Members of Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be out and about today in Lawrence for their annual poppy sale.

VFW members will be at Checkers Foods, 2300 La., Dillons, 1740 Mass., and Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa, throughout the day offering the poppies for sale.

Proceeds go to programs for disabled veterans.
