New art exhibit opens at CornerBank

Black and white panoramic photography by Jon Blumb, new scanography by Bill Bowerman, still-life paintings and drawings by Constance Ehrlich and various sculptures by Forrest Waltman will be the featured artwork at CornerBank’s newest exhibition.

All are Kansas artists. They will attend the opening reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at CornerBank, 4621 W. Sixth St. The exhibit runs March 4-April 19. Work may be viewed during bank hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Blumb will show black and white panoramic photographs of well-preserved and working examples of traditional Kansas family farms, taken in Morris and Dickinson counties in December 2002.

Bowerman, known in Lawrence for his black and white line drawings, is exploring a new medium, scanography, made possible by the flat bed scanner, computer software and archival quality printers and paper. Ehrlich will show still lifes and drawings that portray the unnoticed life of inanimate objects, as in the work shown above. And Waltman will display sculpture in various media, including bronze, wood and stone.

Folk-rock singer to play Hawk’s Nest

Alternative folk rock singer-songwriter Edie Carey will play a 7:30 p.m. show Tuesday at the Hawk’s Nest in the Kansas Union, 1301 Jayhawk Blvd.

Admission is $5 for students, $10 for the public. The concert is sponsored by West Side Folk and the Kansas Union.

Carey has opened tours for the likes of Ani DiFranco and Melissa Ferrick and has won the coveted “most wanted to return” vote at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. She also has been a GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian Music Awards) nominee.
