6News video: Art a la Carte

Back by popular demand, cast members of Lawrence Community Theatre’s fall 2001 production of “Always … Patsy Cline” reprise their roles in three encore presentations this weekend. Lawrence resident Annette Cook plays the beloved country western singer, who’s best known for the tune “Crazy.”

A darker play opens at KU, where University Theatre is staging “Picnic,” by 1953 KU graduate William Inge. But don’t let the name fool you. Life for characters in this play is anything but a perpetual picnic. The show runs this weekend and next.

And Sunday, a handful of Lawrence artists and the Social Service League give a vintage cigarette vending machine a second wind and start pushing a healthier habit. They call it cheap art. The unlikely dispenser of $5 artwork will be unveiled during a Sunday reception at the league store.
