Candidate changes mind about quitting race

Samuel Gould, who considered dropping out of the race for Lawrence school board, said Thursday that he now planned to take part in campaign activities.

“I’m in,” said Gould, who vowed to withdraw after disclosure of his three arrests in 2002.

He was placed on probation for one year after violating a Douglas County District Court order not to enter his wife’s residence. Gould also was arrested last year for driving under the influence and for domestic battery.

There are 13 candidates for four seats on the board.

Gould said he was uncertain how aggressively he would campaign before the Feb. 25 primary election. The top eight candidates advance to the general election April 1.
