One killed in scuffle after police chase

Kansas City, Kan. — Police fatally shot one man and were looking for two more people after a chase early Sunday that ended near a school in Kansas City, Kan.

The incident began near downtown Kansas City, Mo., shortly before 2 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a Ford Explorer with three people inside.

A chase led police into Kansas City, Kan., where the three people jumped from the vehicle. One of the three began struggling with an officer and shots were fired, killing the man.

The other two people fled and still were at large Sunday night.

Renovations to close nature center this week

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed today through Friday for renovations.

The nature center is regularly closed on Mondays, but it will be closed for the rest of the week to renovate the Kids Corner area, making new hands-on displays and a tree house. The center will reopen Jan.11. For more information about the closing, contact Roger Steinbrock at 832-3458.
