Honor Recital calls for young musicians

Auditions for the 16th annual Honor Recital musical competition will be 1:30 p.m.-9 p.m. March 2 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The Arts Center will play host to the competition, which is open to area junior and senior high school students or students that study with area teachers and is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in performance among the community’s young artists.

A teacher recommendation is required for auditions. Students will be judged on the quality of the performance with respect to the difficulty of the work they perform. Performance options include solos or chamber music for instrumentalists and solos or duets for vocalists.

Judges will be Pamela Hinchman, Elizabeth Suh Lane and Richard Angelletti.

The selected musicians will perform during a concert at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Arts Center.

Community Theatre to hold auditions

Auditions for “Over the River and Through the Woods” by Joe DiPietro will be at 7 p.m. March 3-4 at Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H.

The comedy tells the story of Nick, a single, Italian-American man from New Jersey. Although his parents have retired and moved to Florida, Nick’s grandparents still live on the same block they’ve called home for 50 years. When Nick shares news that he has received a promotion that will move him to Seattle, his grandparents hatch a set of schemes — including the introduction of a pretty girl — to keep him in the area.

Roles are available for:

  • Nick, single, Italian-American, nice guy.
  • Aida and Frank Gianelli, Nick’s maternal grandparents.
  • Emma and Nunzio Cristano, Nick’s paternal grandparents.
  • Cailin O’Hare, lovely, single and unsuspecting.

Jeanne Chinn will direct the show. Scripts may be checked out from the theatre office with a $10 deposit. Performances will be April 11-27.
