Sebelius appoints two cabinet members
Topeka ? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday appointed two new secretaries to her cabinet.
Adrian Polansky of Belleville, a former farm official and owner of a farm, will be the new secretary of agriculture.
“He is exactly the leader that Kansas needs with an understanding of our agricultural needs here at home and abroad,” Sebelius said.
Polansky was state executive director of the Kansas State Farm Service Agency from 1993 to 2001. He is president of a 1,600 diversified farming operation.
Pamela Johnson-Betts, the executive director of the Kansas African-American Affairs Commission, will be the new secretary of aging.
“The social services and health issues she has focused on throughout her career are so critical to our seniors in Kansas,” Sebelius said.
Johnson-Betts is a former social worker with a master’s degree in social work from Kansas University.
