Kansas City, Mo ? A Kansas City woman was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for allowing her boyfriend to have sex with her daughter.

The case against Theresa Smith, 36, and Kevin Donovan, 26, prompted an audit of the state child abuse hot line when it was revealed that it took more than 30 calls before Smith’s two daughters were removed from the home.

Jackson County Circuit Judge Charles Atwell ordered the prison sentence for Smith after she pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a child. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped 17 other counts that alleged Smith acted in concert with Donovan. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to multiple counts of raping and sodomizing the sisters and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In August 2001, the Missouri Division of Family Services removed the girls and their four brothers from the home.

Jackson County social workers said they previously couldn’t substantiate the sexual abuse claims.
