Autopsy shows slur on student’s body
A Kansas University student who fell to his death Sept. 12 from a residence hall window ledge had an anti-homosexual slur written on his body, an autopsy report said.
The Douglas County coroner’s report also found that Eric J. Wellhausen, a Mount Prospect, Ill., freshman, was legally drunk. The autopsy said his blood alcohol content was .16, while the legal limit for a minor is .02.
Wellhausen died soon after falling, from bleeding inside his chest, the report said.
Police believe the 18-year-old was smoking while sitting or standing on a ledge intended to block the sun when he slipped and fell from the seventh floor of the building at 1815 Naismith Drive.
Wellhausen’s body was found by other students in the grass outside the residence hall 30 to 40 minutes after he died, the autopsy said. Someone had written “Fag” on his left cheek and drawn male genitalia on his leg with black marker. Wellhausen was pronounced dead after being transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mexican restaurant draws food code fine
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has fined the Burrito King drive-through restaurant $1,000 for food code violations.
An agency report noted that several visits in September to Burrito King, 900 Ill., revealed that raw hamburger was stored too close to raw lettuce, refried beans and cooked rice were not cooled within four hours, and raw beef stored in a plastic tub was found in a box of limes.
Burrito King owner Jesse Zuniga said the problems had been fixed, and that KDHE was most likely called by an irate customer.
