Colorado nature author to teach writing workshop

Colorado author, biologist and naturalist Mary Young will teach a nature writing workshop, “Prairie Reflections,” from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 at Kansas University’s Natural History Museum.

In “Land of Grass and Sky: A Naturalist’s Prairie Journey,” Young details her trip back to eastern Kansas, where she rediscovers her family’s roots in the tiny town of Wilder, just off Kansas Highway 7 near Olathe.

Young will use the book — chock full of natural histories and her own encounters with nature — to teach both serious and beginning scribes how to write about nature. The $28 fee includes the price of the book, which will be mailed to you in advance of the workshop.

The workshop, which will begin at the museum, 1345 Jayhawk Blvd. and may include a trip to a more natural setting, is open to ages 12 and older.
