Noted art scholar, curator to speak at KU

Paul Greenhalgh, president of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada, will discuss his work at 6 p.m. Monday at the Spencer Museum of Art.

His appearance is part of the Hallmark Symposium Series presented by the KU design department.

In addition to being president of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, he also serves as head of research at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (the V&A). Most recently, he was curator for the V&A’s “Art Nouveau 1890-1914,” the largest exhibition ever staged on the subject. Greenhalgh trained at the University of Reading and at London’s Courtauld Institute of Art, specializing in the period from 1850 to 1940. His published books include “Ephemeral Vistas,” “Modernism in Design,” “Quotations and Sources on Design and Decorative Arts,” “Art Nouveau 1890-1914,” “The Essential Art Nouveau” and “The Persistence of Craft.”

Art exhibition features KU scholarship nominees

Students nominated for Kansas University art department scholarships will be featured next week in a special exhibition.

The show will be on view from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 27, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28-29.

The pieces, which will include paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures, will be shown in the art department’s fourth-floor painting and drawing studios and in the KU Art and Design Gallery in the Art and Design building on campus at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive.

An opening reception is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 in Room 422 of the Art and Design building.
