The Prairie Wind Dancers, the resident dance company at the Lawrence Arts Center, will present a First Step House Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the arts center, 940 N.H.

The concert celebrates the women and children of First Step House. The work, “Stories of Addiction,” was created as a result of the company’s residency at First Step House and addresses issues related to addiction.

The program also will include works from the company’s repertoire. “Catching Wind,” choreographed by artistic director Candi Baker, has dancers romping through the space with 12-foot scarves, finding illusive images and startling moments of quiet. A work choreographed by Sarah Grunwaldt is set to music from Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Ladies.”

“Dreamwalking,” choreographed by Jennifer Wilson, sends dancers into a dream scene that is playful and scary. Damian Houston’s piece, “Haragei,” is influenced by his studies of East Asian theater and dance. His Asian theme is complimented by “Metamorphosis” by Philip Glass and “Chinsaguno Hana” by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

The apprentice company will perform excerpts from Kimber Andrews’ “Suite Love,” which is about relationships.
