Moore donations double what Taff raises

? Kansas Democratic Rep. Dennis Moore has pulled in double the campaign dollars of Republican challenger Adam Taff, but Taff out-raised him slightly in the past three months, according to reports released Tuesday.

Taff took in $367,119 from July 18 through Sept. 30, the dates covered in reports to the Federal Election Commission. Moore raised $365,132 for the period.

Taff reported $233,593 cash on hand to Moore’s $92,930. Moore’s campaign said the difference was Moore had purchased all of his television advertising about $900,000 before the close of the filing period, and Taff had not.

Overall, Moore has raised $1.49 million in his campaign for a third term representing the suburbs around Kansas City, Kan., while Taff has raised $720,614. Taff’s total includes a $155,000 personal loan, which he took out before July 18.

The majority of their campaign funds came from individual contributors, who are allowed to give $2,000 per candidate in this election cycle. But money from political parties and special interest groups, which have higher limits, accounted for a large portion of their receipts.

Interest groups gave Moore $137,041 from July 18 to Sept. 30 and have given $639,122 overall. Taff received $84,100 from interest groups during the reporting period, bringing his overall total to $90,850.

Political parties have contributed $4,000 to Taff, all of it since July 18, compared to $35,380 for Moore since July 18 and $52,350 for the cycle.

Other party and campaign-related fund-raising committees transferred $10,000 to Taff, all of it since July 18, while Moore has received no such transfers.

In his 2000 campaign, Moore raised $1.78 million to Republican Phill Kline’s $1.06 million.
