Chance of light showers in forecast for Saturday morning

If you’re planning to attend Saturday morning’s homecoming parade on Kansas University’s campus, you might take along an umbrella and a jacket.

There’s a 30 percent chance of light showers and breezy weather Saturday morning for the Lawrence area, says Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

Also, a cold front moving in Saturday morning will keep temperatures down in the 50s for Saturday’s homecoming day game at KU’s Memorial Stadium.

Friday’s forecast calls for sunny skies during the afternoon, with temperatures getting up to 79, he said.

Clouds will increase Friday night, with the low dropping to 50 overnight.

“For football games tonight, folks should take a light jacket with them, because the end of the game will be cool. But no rain is expected tonight,” Makens said.

There’s a 30 percent chance for light showers Saturday morning, as a cold front slides through the area between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., he said.

“From then on the temperatures will stay in the 50s for tomorrow and it will probably be a little bit breezy to windy at times,” he said. “And that wind will be fairly chilly. So folks going to the parade or the homecoming game will need a medium weight jacket.”

The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and goes from the Adams Alumni Center along Jayhawk Boulevard to the Chi Omega fountain. The KU-Colorado football game begins at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday night will be very cold, with temperatures dipping to around the freezing mark.

“My forecast is 31 and that would be the coldest of this fall so far and the first freeze of the season,” he said.

Sunday will be clear, with the high of 57. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be back in the lower 60s with lows in the upper 30s, he said.
