Up to two inches of rain expected by Friday

A weather system passing across the area was quenching thirsty lawns and fields Wednesday in the Lawrence area. And it should continue through Thursday into Friday afternoon, says Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

“We will see from one to two inches of rain. We may get more,” Janssen said.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, about 0.38 of an inch was reported at the Lawrence Municipal Airport, with other areas of Lawrence measuring between a half inch and three-fourths of an inch of rain, he said.

Dennis Hetrick, one of the 6News Skyhawk weather watchers, reported 1.3 inches by 5 p.m. in Stull.

Janssen predicted scattered showers for the rest of the evening with a possible break around 9 p.m.

“There will be some rumbles of thunder but no severe weather, he said.

Temperatures should drop overnight to the middle 50s.

More showers are expected Thursday morning, then more again Thursday night into Friday morning, he said.
