Islamorada, Fla. ” After a two-year dry spell, former President George Bush caught a bonefish during his namesake tournament in the Florida Keys.
The 10 1/2-pound bonefish wasn’t large enough to take the lead Wednesday during the two-day George Bush/Cheeca Lodge Bonefish Tournament, but it did put a big smile on Bush’s face.
The two-day tournament raises funds for Bush’s Presidential Library in College Station, Tex., and South Florida’s Tarpon and Bonefish Unlimited, an organization founded by fishing industry leaders dedicated to studying and protecting tarpon and bonefish.
Dogg’s gotta have his own show
New York ” MTV is unleashing Snoop Dogg to star in his own variety show.
The pilot for the rapper’s half-hour program, “Doggy Fizzle Televizzle,” is scheduled to air at 9:30 p.m. Monday on Sunflower Broadband Channel 57.
Snoop will mix sketch comedy with music and man-on-the-street bits.
Brosnan is the Bond for Berry
Los Angeles ” It’s easy to guess who Halle Berry’s favorite James Bond is.
Berry, who plays an American agent in the new Bond movie “Die Another Day,” leans toward her co-star, Pierce Brosnan, now in his fourth outing as agent 007 since taking over the role with 1995’s “GoldenEye.”
Berry’s runner-up is the original Bond, Sean Connery, whom she found charming for the “lightness and silliness that he brought to it. He didn’t take himself too seriously,” she said.
Dion makes time for fast food
Jupiter, Fla. ” Celine Dion donned a navy blue apron to serve breakfast to dozens of elementary school students at a McDonald’s restaurant to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
“I’m here because I’m a mother and to make a difference in my son’s life is what counts the most,” she said Wednesday. “And if I can make a difference in other children’s lives, I will do it.”
After taking a two-year break to have a baby, the 34-year-old singer, whose hits include “My Heart Will Go On,” is moving to Las Vegas, where she’ll perform at Caesars Palace hotel-casino.
