Queen Latifah arrested for DUI
Los Angeles ” Actress-rapper Queen Latifah was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The hip-hop star was driving in North Hollywood when she was stopped about 3:15 a.m. for making an unsafe lane change, Officer Alex Delgadillo said.
The 32-year-old artist, who was driving a 2003 Cadillac Escalade, presented a valid New Jersey driver’s license bearing her given name, Dana Owens, and then failed a sobriety test, Delgadillo said.
She was booked and released, police said.
Maher returning to television
New York ” He may have been too politically incorrect for network television, but Bill Maher has found a new home on cable.
Maher will host a late-night talk show on HBO starting Feb. 21. The hour-long news and comedy program, which has yet to be titled, will air once a week for 20 episodes.
Maher, 46, hosted the late-night roundtable “Politically Incorrect” on ABC from 1997 until May, when it was canceled.
Maher previously was host of comedy specials on HBO including “Be More Cynical” and “Stuff That Struck Me Funny.”
Maria Shriver reports stalker
Los Angeles ” Television journalist Maria Shriver has gotten a restraining order against a man she claims is stalking her, a television show reported.
The 47-year-old wife of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and correspondent for NBC’s “Dateline” filed the request July 23 for a restraining order against Bruce Fiorani, Celebrity Justice reported.
Shriver said she began receiving phone calls from Fiorani more than a year ago, initially saying that he attended high school with her, the TV show reported.
She became concerned about Fiorani after he left her a phone message saying he’d just returned from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis, Mass., where he was looking for her and her family.
Shriver, a niece of former President John F. Kennedy, said the man also has tried to get inside the NBC Studios in Burbank to see her, claiming to be her ex-husband.
Brits impressed with Spike Lee
London ” The British film academy will honor Spike Lee today as “one of the most influential and important filmmakers of our time.”
Lee, director of “She’s Gotta Have It,” “Do the Right Thing,” “Malcolm X,” “Summer of Sam” and “The Original Kings of Comedy,” will receive a Special Award, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts said Tuesday.
The 45-year-old director will be interviewed before an audience of academy members by playwright and critic Bonnie Greer.
“As one of the most prolific directors of the last two decades, Spike Lee is inspiring to a generation of filmmakers,” the academy said.
