Baker orchestra plans fall concert of classics

? The Baker University Orchestra’s annual fall concert will be Tuesday at Rice Auditorium.

The concert, set for 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public. Soloist for the Gershwin piece will be Trilla Lyerla, Baker associate professor of piano.

The program also will include compositions by Vivaldi, Dvorak, Gustav Holst, Mendelssohn and John Williams of Boston Pops fame.

Leaders of the orchestra are Scott Allison, Bartlett junior, concertmaster; Suzanne Toumberlin, Ottawa senior, principal first violin; Joycelyn Hunt, Olathe junior, principal second violin; Lyndsee Monroe, El Dorado junior, principal viola; and Janine Henry, Topeka freshman, principal cello.

The orchestra’s next performance will be its annual Christmas Candlelight Vespers on Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church.
