Juvenile held in slaying of ‘Steve Harvey’ actor

? A young woman was in custody Monday in connection with the slaying of actor Merlin Santana, who was gunned down two days earlier as he sat in a parked car in South Los Angeles.

Santana, 26, best known for his role as Romeo Santana on “The Steve Harvey Show,” was shot in the 3800 block of Victoria Avenue, a quiet residential street.

“We have one person in custody. We aren’t releasing further details because it could jeopardize the ongoing investigation,” Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee said.

After the suspect was taken into custody, police determined she was a juvenile, authorities said.

Santana, of Los Angeles, was fatally shot about 2:45 a.m. Saturday after at least one person approached the vehicle, police said.

The driver, a friend of Santana, immediately drove to a nearby intersection, where he flagged down a police car. Santana was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The New York-born Santana, whose parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic, earned nominations for the NAACP Image Awards and ALMA Awards, which honor Latino performers, for his role on “The Steve Harvey Show” on the WB Network.

Santana also appeared on “The Cosby Show,” “Major Dad,” “Moesha” and “Sister, Sister.”
