‘Untouchables’ star has cancer
Los Angeles Actor Robert Stack is undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer.
The 83-year-old, who gained fame as crimebuster Eliot Ness on the ’60s TV series “The Untouchables” and as host of the reality show “Unsolved Mysteries,” is receiving outpatient treatment, said his publicist, Jerry Pam.
Stack learned he had prostate cancer about a month ago. Recently, he was briefly hospitalized for an unrelated condition, which Pam said might have been pneumonia.
Forget William, Harry’s hot
London He’s still in high school, but Prince Harry has been named Britain’s hottest date by the society magazine Tatler.
The 18-year-old prince, third in line to the throne, topped the magazine’s annual list of eligible bachelors, released Tuesday.
“Harry has come of age this year, and he has a naughty but nice element to him. He’s irreverent, mischievous and terrific looking,” said the magazine’s editor, Geordie Greig.
In second place on the list was 79-year-old artist Lucian Freud, whom the magazine praised for his “youthful genius.”
Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, who is frequently in London, topped the women’s list, followed by 21-year-old royal Lady Gabriella Windsor and model Sophie Dahl.
Arias evoke days gone by
London Opera singer Andrea Bocelli has returned to his childhood and dusted off some forgotten arias for his new album.
The Italian tenor’s latest album, “Sentimento,” is a collaboration with conductor and violinist Lorin Maazel. The pair wanted to revive a fashion for performing violin and voice duets.
“This is a collection of old songs, of arias that describe love. I am particularly fond of them because they also belong to my childhood,” Bocelli said.
Born in 1958, the blind Bocelli grew up in a close-knit farming community in Tuscany, Italy, and became a lawyer before embarking on his musical career.
His 1994 debut album went platinum within weeks.
Kimmel to have company
Los Angeles Jimmy Kimmel won’t be going it alone with his new ABC late-night entertainment show.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” scheduled to debut with a special on Super Bowl Sunday, Jan. 26, will feature rotating co-hosts, ABC said Monday. The co-hosts were not announced.
The show is scheduled to air daily at 11:05 p.m. after “Nightline.” Kimmel, co-host and co-creator of Comedy Central’s “The Man Show,” is taking over the time slot once held by Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect,” which went off the air last June.
The talk show faltered after the Sept. 11 attacks, when Maher referred to past U.S. military actions as cowardly. ABC said Maher’s comments had nothing to do with the decision to cancel “Politically Incorrect.”
