Dinosaurs to romp at Powell Gardens

Kingsville, Mo. Rediscover the living links to the lost world of the dinosaurs by taking in the Jurassic Garden Saturday-Sept. 12 at Powell Gardens, 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50.

The garden will include a feathered, 7-pound Bambiraptor, a 30-foot, 3-ton Maiasaur and 18 other life-like dinosaur replicas.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $2.50 for children ages 5-12.

It’s time to start getting together your event listing for the arts and entertainment section of the 2002 KU Edition.

We want to know about your dance, theater, music and other performing arts programs and about museum and gallery exhibitions. We want to know about community fairs, parades and any special event you might be planning in Lawrence or surrounding communities.

Deadline for calendar submissions is June 3. The KU Edition will be published in mid-August.

Artists to show, sell their works at Topeka fair

Topeka About 80 artists will display and sell their works at the 10th annual Mulvane Mountain/Plains Art Fair Saturday and June 2 near Whiting Field House, 18th and Washburn.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2.

Works will include oil paintings, watercolor, pottery, jewelry, photography, fiber and other media. The event also will feature live entertainment, food and hands-on art projects for children.

Tickets are $3 in advance or $4 at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

‘Sticks of Thunder’ returns with patriotic show

Kansas City, Mo. “Sticks of Thunder” has returned to Union Station with a new patriotic musical, “One Nation.”

The show features 73 instruments, a vocal ensemble, dancing and comedy. Audience members receive drumsticks and can play along.

Shows are at 7 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays through Aug. 31 at Union Station, Main Street and Pershing Road.
