Child of Ozzy?

New York Ozzy Osbourne already has three kids of his own, but Rosie O’Donnell joked on Wednesday that the heavy metal singer also impregnated her girlfriend.

When Katie Couric asked on the “Today” show whether the father was singer David Crosby the sperm provider for Melissa Etheridge’s two children with ex-girlfriend Julie Cypher O’Donnell quipped, “It’s Ozzy Osbourne, actually.”

O’Donnell is a huge fan of “The Osbournes,” the MTV series that goes inside Osbourne’s home life, and often shows clips on her talk show.

Kelli Carpenter, her longtime girlfriend, is due to give birth in December. Publicist Cindi Berger declined to say who helped with the artificial insemination.

In jail, out of ring

Las Vegas John Wayne Bobbitt has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman he married in March.

Bobbitt’s wife, Joanna, told police her husband pushed her to the ground. She was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.

Her husband’s arrest cost him an appearance on Fox-TV’s “Celebrity Boxing 2” program.

Bobbitt, 35, was to take on Joey Buttafuoco in a bout scheduled to air on May 22. After his arrest, he was replaced by former World Wrestling Federation star Joanie Laurer, also known as Chyna.

Springsteen campaign

Political consultant Doug Friedline thinks so. He’s leading a campaign to get the Boss elected as New Jersey’s next U.S. senator.

A coalition calling itself “The Independence for New Jersey” launched a petition drive Tuesday to get the 800 signatures of registered voters required by June 4 to place Springsteen on the ballot.

It’s not that simple though, officials said. Springsteen would have to sign on to consent to becoming a candidate.

Friedline, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., managed Jesse Ventura’s successful Minnesota gubernatorial campaign in 1998.

Aid efforts not enough

London Bob Geldof, who inspired the 1985 Live Aid benefit concert, called for more help for the poor of Africa.

“While some aid has still got through to the Third World,” Western governments have done little to change the overall situation, he said Monday, publicizing a report called “Listen to Africa” by the charity Christian Aid.

Geldof, 47, is the former singer for the Boomtown Rats. The trans-Atlantic Live Aid rock extravaganza raised more than $100 million for starving Africans.

The Christian Aid report looks at three major problems facing the continent conflict, trade with the West and the way aid is given to African countries. The report said efforts to resolve the problems have failed to take into account the opinions of African countries themselves.
