Another top executive exits from race track

? A third executive of The Woodlands, the financially struggling pari-mutuel racing complex in Kansas City, Kan., is no longer with the track, fired as part of an investigation by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.

Larry Seckington, acting general manager, confirmed Tuesday that Diane Krug, an assistant general manager and controller, was terminated late last week.

Earlier this month general manager August J. Masciotra was placed on paid administrative leave and another assistant general manager, Allan P. Meyers, resigned.

Seckington said that Meyers, a former chief of police for Kansas City, Kan., had retired and that his departure did not appear to be related to the state’s investigation.

It does not appear that Masciotra, a former state racing commission regulator in Nevada and Colorado, will return.

The state regulatory agency hasn’t offered an explanation for the management changes at the dog- and horse-racing track.

But The Woodlands has turned over several financial records to the commission, said Tracy Diel, the commission’s interim executive director. Diel said he plans to make his first public report on the matter at a commission meeting on Feb. 15.

The commission has a special meeting Friday to confirm Seckington as acting general manager and Bruce Schmitter as director of finance and acting assistant general manager at the track.
