Voters organization chooses award recipient

The Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters has selected Larry Kipp as the recipient of the third annual Helen Fluker Open and Accessible Government Award.

In a news release last week, the League said Kipp was chosen “in recognition of his efforts to bring to light government’s responsibility to the public.”

Kipp is a founder of Friends of Douglas County, has served as a Palmyra Township Trustee, is a member of the American Planning Assn. and Douglas County Property Owners Assn. He has twice lost races for the Douglas County Commission. He was behind the Smart Growth conference conducted in Lawrence in May 2000.

He will be honored at a $9-a-plate dinner at 6 p.m. March 7 at University Community of Christ, 1900 University Drive. Reservations can be made by calling Rita Spradlin, 749-4107.
