Los Angeles: Mother of ‘Dr. Laura’ found slain in home

Radio host Laura Schlessinger told her audience Friday that her estranged mother had been found slain this week in her condominium.

The announcement came in the final minutes of the “Dr. Laura” radio call-in advice show.

The body of Yolanda Schlessinger, 77, was found Monday in her Beverly Hills condominium when police were asked to check by a neighbor who hadn’t seen her in weeks. Police would say only that she had been dead for a long time.

An autopsy determined that she was the victim of a homicide.

Laura Schlessinger said her mother, who was divorced from her late father, had shut her family out of her life for years. “And I deeply regret that despite any attempts I made to make contact or stay connected, she died without that ever being accomplished,” she said.

Oklahoma: 4 survive jet collision

Two Air Force training jets flying in formation collided Friday over southern Oklahoma, causing one plane to crash.

None of the four people aboard the planes was seriously injured, including two who ejected, military officials said.

Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Tex., issued a statement saying one of the T-37 jets was able to fly back to the base and land safely with two people aboard.

The two in the other jet ejected before it crashed in a field south of Duncan. Both people who had been aboard were examined at the base hospital and released, said U.S. Air Force Col. Ralph Jodice.

Florida: Teenager accused in ‘thrill’ beating

A teenager was charged with attacking a man in a Titusville park in a crime his friends videotaped as an “amusement,” authorities said.

Police arrested Michael J. Lasher, 17, on Thursday after a school police officer obtained a copy of the tape of the Nov. 15 assault.

In the tape, a young man picks out Matthew Dillingham as he stands in a park, blows two air kisses to the camera and laughs, “I’m going to whup that kid’s ass over there.”

The attacker then hits and kicks Dillingham, 20, as about a dozen people cheer.

Dillingham suffered minor injuries, and his skateboard was stolen.

“It appears the tape was made for amusement purposes,” said police spokesman Todd Hutchinson.
