Two arrested in South Junior High burglary

Lawrence police have arrested two people in connection with an overnight burglary at South Junior High School, according to Lawrence public school officials.

The school district’s facilities and operations department responded to an alarm at 2 a.m. Friday at SJHS, 2734 La.

Police arrested two people who had taken cash from the office, according to Julie Boyle, the school district’s communications director.

There are two broken doors inside the office, a broken window outside and damage to two desks and a filing cabinet, Boyle said.

Bryan Hunter, maintenance supervisor at the school, said he was at the school when the police caught the suspects. Hunter said one man was in his 30s and the other was a little younger, “probably in his mid to late 20s.”

Hunter said it cost $185 to fix the broken window. The principal’s door was temporarily fixed today and it will probably cost $200 to get a new one, he said.
