Students suspended for alleged drug use

Two ninth-graders at West Junior High School were suspended Thursday on suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana.

One of the boys was kicked out of school for five days because it was his second offense.

The other student was originally suspended for three days because it was his first infraction of the Lawrence school board’s drug-free schools policy. His suspension was cut to one day because he agreed to undergo an alcohol and drug assessment, said Julie Boyle, the district’s communications director.

She said Lawrence Police had been notified about the incidents.
